We love traveling to this charming island because it feels like a little slice of Australia encapsulated. You can spot various Australian animals, such as rock wallabies and koalas.
While hiking the famous Forts Walk, you’ll likely have a chance to spot these adorable koalas in the trees and enjoy panoramic views. Additionally, the island offers excellent snorkeling opportunities at Geoffrey Bay and Arthur Bay, where you can admire colorful coral reefs and tropical fish. With sunny weather year-round, a relaxed island vibe, and numerous hiking trails through Magnetic Island National Park, it’s a perfect destination for a tropical adventure. Rottnest Island, situated off the coast of Perth in Western Australia, is a paradise famous for its pristine nature, azure coastlines, and unique wildlife. Just 18 kilometers from the mainland, this island boasts many white sandy beaches and picturesque bays. Many travelers, including ourselves, prefer exploring Rottnest Island by bike. The island is home to the quokka, a cute marsupial often the focal point of many photos due to its friendly and curious nature.The island is also known for its marine life, offering excellent opportunities to spot seals, dolphins, and even whales, depending on the season. For adventurers, the Wadjemup Bidi features a network of hiking trails leading to stunning views and historical lighthouses. With its laid-back island vibe and beautiful nature, Rottnest is an absolute must-visit in Western Australia! We are huge fans of Rottnest and can’t wait to return. Rottnest truly ranks among the most beautiful islands in Australia. Fitzroy Island is another stunning island in Queensland worth visiting. Known for its beautiful coastline, the island attracts many snorkelers, divers, and hikers. Though smaller in size, it has everything needed for an unforgettable and laid-back vacation. Staying on this idyllic island near Cairns truly enhances the feeling of a tropical paradise, making you never want to leave.We stayed here for just one night, but it left us wanting more. In addition to beautiful beaches like Nudey Beach, you can also kayak, paddleboard, and even visit a turtle rescue center. The hiking trails lead you through lush rainforests to breathtaking viewpoints overlooking the azure sea. The vibe on the island is absolutely delightful! Being surrounded by the Great Barrier Reef only made us, as snorkeling enthusiasts, even happier. Highly recommended! The state of Victoria also boasts many Islands of Australia, with Phillip Island being one of the most famous. Although this is Victoria’s most popular island, we genuinely recommend a visit. Phillip Island features several beautiful nature reserves and is home to a colony of penguins that emerge from the sea each evening during the Penguin Parade and march back to their nests. This beautiful island near Melbourne is also known for seal spotting at Seal Rocks and visiting historical lighthouses.Apart from the unique wildlife you can observe, the island also offers stunning hiking trails, such as the Cape Woolamai Walk, with spectacular views along the coastline. Surfers can enjoy the rugged waves of Woolamai Beach while families take pleasure in the peaceful beaches and cozy cafes in Cowes. Phillip Island is the ideal Australian island for nature lovers looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Melbourne. Moreton Island, located off the coast of Brisbane in Queensland, is a favorite among snorkeling and diving enthusiasts. At the island, you can find Tangalooma Wrecks, a cluster of shipwrecks where snorkeling is simply remarkable. We snorkeled here and discovered that it truly is a snorkeling paradise. Thousands of colorful fish swam around these ancient wrecks. It was an unforgettable experience.Moreton Island is also ideal for those seeking a bit of adrenaline. Join a tour of the island and jump into a 4WD that speeds along the beach, embark on an adventurous hike through the tropical rainforest, or glide over the massive sand dunes while sandboarding. Moreton Island is a playground for adventurers who love exciting activities. Hamilton Island in Queensland might just be the most beautiful island in Australia. However, as this island is in a slightly higher price range, I have placed it lower on the list. Hamilton Island is located in the Whitsunday Islands and is famous for its unique mode of transportation: everyone drives golf buggies, and regular cars are scarcely seen. The island features several beautiful luxury resorts and boasts the greatest vacation vibe of all these highlighted Islands of Australia.As Hamilton Island lies in the renowned Great Barrier Reef, a snorkeling session is a must. If you’re searching for a bit of luxury and wish to pamper yourself, I absolutely recommend Hamilton Island. We found it a remarkable experience, especially because it’s situated at the Great Barrier Reef, providing us with a magnificent view of the azure waters. We thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere on this beautiful island. Montague Island is the odd one out—not because you can’t visit this island, but because it is one of the smallest in this lineup, measuring only 82 hectares. Located off the south coast of New South Wales near Narooma, Montague Island is part of the protected Montague Island Nature Reserve. As one of the unique Islands of Australia, it is home to seals, which you can also spot closely during a snorkeling tour. It hosts various bird species, making it an interesting destination for bird watchers. Montague Island can only be visited through a guided tour with a tour guide. Different tours are available, where an enthusiastic guide brings you closer to the seals, birds, and the 19th-century lighthouse. We found visiting this area very exciting, as we are passionate about nature and wildlife.
