About The Entrance
The Entrance is particularly attractive due to its proximity to Sydney. This makes it easy to combine with a visit to the bustling city without losing much time in transit. Compared to other locations such as Newcastle or the Sydney Northern Beaches, the beaches here are significantly quieter, adding an idyllic character and relaxing atmosphere. The Entrance is situated on a narrow peninsula between Tuggerah Lake and the Pacific Ocean, making it an ideal spot for water sports and beach lovers. As you can see in the stunning photographs below, the beautiful azure waters are incredibly inviting for swimming. Fun fact: The Entrance is also known as the Pelican Capital of Australia because of the daily pelican show at Memorial Park. You will indeed see plenty of pelicans along the coast!
The Entrance Ocean Baths
Australia is renowned for its beautiful ocean baths, and The Entrance features a splendid pool filled with ocean water, perfect for cooling off during hot summer days. Even though it’s peak vacation season and school holidays had begun, the pool and beach were not overly crowded. Compared to Sydney, this tranquility is refreshing for those truly seeking a serene atmosphere. Entrance Ocean Baths are accessible for free, just like many other pools in Australia.
The Entrance Beach
Adjacent to The Entrance Ocean Baths, you will find The Entrance Beach, a lovely stretch of sand with consistently good surf. These conditions are perfect for surfing or bodyboarding. Lifeguards monitor the beach during specific hours, advising swimmers to stay between the flags for their safety from dangerous currents. The beach has an idyllic feel as it’s not overwhelmingly crowded. In the afternoon during summer, shade can be found under trees near the lifeguard station, making it an ideal spot to relax. A significant advantage of this location is its authentic local vibe; you won’t encounter many tourists here.

Tuggerah Parade is a long path along Tuggerah Lake, surrounded by nature and scenic views of the water. This spot features several picnic tables with shelters, where you can sit back and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. During warm days, it’s a perfect place to relax in the shade. We visited just before Christmas, and many Australians were here with their families enjoying a pre-Christmas dinner. Isn’t it wonderful to embrace the great outdoors?
Memorial Park
One of the most delightful hotspots in The Entrance is Memorial Park and its surroundings. This beautiful park, situated by the water, is a meeting place for locals and tourists alike. You can see people strolling along the promenade, relaxing on benches, or enjoying a picnic on the park’s green grass. The laid-back atmosphere and beautiful view make this a must-visit location!
A Great Place for Fishing
Did you know that Australians are crazy about fishing? Families spend hours by the water to enjoy the day and catch as many fish as possible. The Entrance is a popular fishing spot, thanks to the narrow peninsula that provides numerous excellent fishing locations. With a long coastline, there’s ample space for everyone. Along the coast, you’ll often find fishers of all ages, from kids trying out their first rods to experienced anglers with high-end gear. Even if you’re not a fishing enthusiast, taking a stroll along the water’s edge is enjoyable to watch the activity!
