Taghazout Village in a Sunny Day, Morocco

Taghazout, a surfer’s paradise located about 30 minutes from the bustling city of Agadir, is a charming little surf village adorned with brightly colored houses and blue fishing boats lining the beach. Particularly during the winter months, when the waves are at their best, the village attracts many local surfers, while tourists often engage in surf schools to tackle the famous waves.

Taghazout: An Ultimate (Surf) Village in Morocco

The popularity of the village is evident in the developments taking place in the area. Apartment complexes are rising, and significant efforts are being made to create ‘Taghazout Bay’. While it’s no surprise that Morocco wants to capitalize on this hotspot’s success, I do worry a bit about the influx of crowds that might disrupt the village’s relaxed atmosphere. Nonetheless, until then, Taghazout remains a delightful place for a week of surfing or perhaps a day trip. In this blog, I will share my tips for exploring Taghazout on the Atlantic coast.

Things You Should Do (Besides Surfing) in Taghazout, Morocco

1. Surf & Yoga

The waves here are suitable for surfing throughout the year, with the winter months featuring standout conditions. With a wetsuit, these months are quite manageable, and the beach remains peaceful. Numerous surf camps are available for tourists, and many of these can be combined with yoga sessions. Grab a board and hit the waves with an experienced instructor. There’s a good spot for every skill level: beginners often start at Taghazout Beach, while the more experienced surfers tackle the waves at Anchor Point or Devil’s Rock. If lessons aren’t your thing, you can rent a board and wetsuit for a few hours at one of the many surf shops, often for just a few euros.

2. Enjoy Lunch with a View of the Sea

What I love about this village compared to Agadir is the opportunity to relax by the water with a meal or drink. After an intense morning of surfing, nothing beats unwinding with a fresh smoothie from World of Waves. The terrace offers a beautiful view of the sea and beach, where there’s always something happening. While the menu leans more Western with sandwiches and pizzas, you can also indulge in a traditional Moroccan tajine.

3. Take a Walk from Tamraght to the Village

The booming development in Taghazout brings along some benefits. In addition to the rising constructions, a beautiful walking path has been established along the sea, stretching all the way from Tamraght to Taghazout. It’s quite a hike, but as you walk, you can relish the stunning views over the water while working on your daily steps!

4. Sip Cocktails at Sol House

During your scenic walk to Taghazout, make sure to stop at one of my favorite spots for cocktails at sunset: Sol House Taghazout. It’s a fantastic place to stay for those with a larger budget, with cozy cabins featuring hammocks, but it’s also a great location to sip a drink while enjoying lounge music or whatever the DJ is spinning that evening. Since alcohol is relatively scarce in Taghazout, this is a perfect spot if you’re craving a delicious cocktail.

5. Soak in the Vibrant Atmosphere

Finally, my last tip is to simply enjoy everything this charming village has to offer. Bright murals in the prettiest colors line the streets, friendly dogs greet you, and cats bask in the sun. During my time living in Morocco, this was my favorite weekend pastime.

Language Tip: In Arabic, the ‘gh’ is pronounced like a French ‘r’. So it’s not ‘TaGazout’, but ‘TaRazout’.
